Green Greenwich

A blog from Greenwich Green Party

Why vote for us?

The Green Party believes local people deserve safer, cleaner neighbourhoods, with better public services closer to where you live. May’s council elections give you a chance to change Greenwich for the better.

- We want to see a better, safer local environment. Dirty streets quickly become unsafe streets. We want our neighbourhoods cleaner, safer and more pleasant for walkers and cyclists.

- We think the council should put more effort into helping local shops and businesses. Instead of closing post offices, like Labour are, Greens back expanding the network.

- Greens would fight to protect local services. East Greenwich’s library and law centre are under threat, as is Plumstead law centre. Charlton lost its gym two years ago. Services like this should be on your doorstep, not a bus ride away.

- Greens want local assemblies in each neighbourhood, asking you to help decide how to spend a pot of money to go on local projects. A childrens’ football team? Projects for older people? Decorating local streets? It’s time you had a real say.

- Greenwich Council should offer free insulation to all homes in the borough to save energy and money. It’s been done elsewhere in Britain- so why not in Greenwich?

- Greens back the NHS. Woolwich’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital is £65m in debt thanks to Labour’s private finance scheme. Why bail out bankers when healthcare needs the money?

Voting for Labour councillors will not change anything – but imagine what independent Green councillors could do.

Make a stand for Greenwich, and vote Green on 6 May.
